Health and Personal Social Services

Stephen Birch and Alan Maynard

Chapter 10 in Public Expenditure Policy, 1985–86, 1985, pp 223-242 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract This chapter analyses the expenditure plans for health care and personal social services. The analysis will involve the appraisal of three different and almost independent sub-programmes: the cash-limited Department of Health and Social Security (DHSS) allocation for hospital and community health services (HCHS), the ‘open-ended’ DHSS allocation for Family Practitioner Services (FPS) and the local authority allocation for personal social services (local authority social services: LASS).
