Abstract:
Abstract The objective of the strategy of the lateral project is to mobilise players to act on behalf of the project. This might seem like manipulation — an attempt to make people do something they do not want to do. This is not so. When dealing with complex and sensitive projects, among the first casualties are the facts. It is important that people have access to facts and the various interpretations — for and against. In a world where inertia tends to rule and sensitive projects are bypassed because they do not seem to be worth the effort, the Lateral Approach is simply a tool which allows the promoters of a project the best chance to make their voices heard. And rather than manipulation, it allows people a real say in how the project can be adapted to meet their needs rather than only the needs of the promoter.
