Abstract: Abstract The Rover Group’s factory at Swindon, in southern England, is the company’s main site for the stamping of major steel body parts and the welding of body sub-assemblies from smaller stampings. The factory was originally built by the Pressed Steel Company in 1958. In 1965 Pressed Steel was purchased by the British Motor Corporation (BMC: formed from the 1952 merger of the main domestic mass car producers, Austin and Morris). Ultimately, the wave of mergers and acquisitions culminated in the formation of the conglomerate British Leyland Motor Corporation (BLMC) in 1968.
