Abstract:
Abstract Without sales there is no business. This is the first and most obvious reason for the emphasis on sales generation in a retail business. There are other reasons. A minimum volume of sales is necessary if an optimal utilisation of fixed assets is to be realised. If the sales fail to materialise, it is likely that diseconomies will occur which will result in a decrease in the operating margins of the business. Both economies and diseconomies of scale are discussed in Chapter 6.
