Tibetan Buddhism and Action Reflection Learning™ Philosophy

Lars Cederholm

Chapter 19 in Action Learning Worldwide, 2002, pp 268-281 from Palgrave Macmillan

Abstract: Abstract As I grow older, it has been increasingly important for me to strive to bring the different strands and activities of my life into one unified view, or mandala to use a Buddhist word. I lay no claim to have found the truth hidden behind this unified concept, but nevertheless it is important to me to continue the search. In this article I have attempted to describe the basic ideas in Tibetan Buddhism and Action Reflection LearningTM (ARL) and to highlight some similarities and connections. There are many differences. For one thing, Tibetan Buddhism is a religion. Action Reflection Learning philosophy and theory does not make that claim though some people may disagree with this assertion. There are many relevant and interesting parallels between Buddhist philosophy and Action Reflection Learning (ARL) as an approach to management and organizational development. The comparison to Tibetan Buddhism in this article will be to the approach, which goes under the name ARL as it is being practiced by the MiL Institute in Europe.
