Abstract:
Abstract The current unstable global financial environment, combined with the largely unregulated nature of crypto assets and limited understanding among key football industry stakeholders, could create a "perfect storm." This paper explores the risks and challenges of integrating crypto assets into the football industry and offers recommendations for effective engagement with these digital innovations. By reviewing existing literature, the study examines market dynamics and factors influencing their adoption and impact in football and identifies significant challenges. Real industry cases illustrate how clubs, players, and fans navigate this evolving landscape, providing practical insights. The findings emphasise the need for robust cybersecurity measures to prevent breaches and fraud. Addressing financial mismanagement and considering ethical implications, such as environmental impact and speculative bubbles, is crucial. With growing interest in digital currencies among European football clubs, this research is highly relevant, offering insights for club executives and policymakers to make informed decisions about adopting and managing crypto assets.
