Abstract:
Farms, Food, and Futures: Toward Inclusive and Sustainable Agricultural and Rural Development in Southeast Asia spells out the nuances of these interventions moving forward, carefully drawing from in-depth analyses and syntheses of lessons, experiences, and empirical evidence on Asia's agricultural and rural development. Siginificantly, the book's contributors walk the leaders and practitioners of agricultural and rural development through the complex issues and challenges, as well as opportunities arising from the structural transformation and market integration happening in the region. The volume, also dubbed as Agricultural and Rural Development (ARD) Book 2016, is a fitting follow-up to ARD Book 2007 titled Re-asserting the Rural Development Agenda: Lessons Learned and Emerging Challenges in Asia. For ARD Book 2016, SEARCA assembled eminent experts and thought leaders working in the field of ARD in the region, and together authored the book with four cross-cutting and contemporary ARD themes, namely: inclusive growth; sustainability; regional integration; and institutions, governance, and transformation.
