Abstract:
Abstract The nineties have witnessed a renewed interest in the wage structure and its development. In one branch of the literature the focus is on the flexibility of wage adjustment in face of supply and demand shocks. This flexibility plays a dominant role in the modern macroeconomic theory of unemployment.Another strand of literature analyzes wage differentials in their own right.2 As has been widely documented, these differentials are partly due to qualification, experience and other personal attributes.3 Characteristics of the firm like size, industry affiliation and market power exert significant influences on wages as well.4
