Abstract:
Abstract Innovation and research are becoming increasingly important components of most production and service activities. The pressures introduced by global competition and rapid technological change have made it essential for many firms and organisations to engage in continuous innovation, where research and development (R&D) units are expected to successively come up with new knowledge and discoveries at a very rapid pace. In many advanced technology sectors and activities, research units have therefore taken up a central role in firm survival and in the formulation of company strategy.
