Abstract:
Abstract In NW Europe, we can discern a time-honoured pattern of urbanization characterized by polynuclear urban regions in which the cities — with the exception of London and Paris — do not reach the level of global cities. Such areas as the Randstad, the Rhine-Ruhr Area, the Flemish Diamond, the British Midlands and Central Scotland incorporate networks of cities and smaller municipalities which lack any strong hierarchy.
