Abstract:
Abstract Australia has experienced a economic growth since the 1991 recession and convergence in labour market outcomes across space might reasonably have been expected given this 17 year span. The orthodox view of regional development suggests that “provided there are no major barriers to the operation of market forces, in an integrated national space economy there are strong pressures leading to the general convergence of regional incomes over time” (Martin and Sunley 1998: 201).
