Abstract:
Abstract As new societal structures are being consolidated, they include their own set of core-periphery relationships. They might be different from the earlier ones but they also repeat features of the past. For those living in peripheries, periods of restructuring arouse new hopes. Ancient stories of leaping frogs are told again. These belittled creatures compete with stumbling giants and win by making amazing jumps. Earlier neglected peripheries become centres of the new order. That is why, in such times as ours, there is a need to update the concepts of periphery.
