Abstract:
Abstract At the outset, two kinds of comment are needed in order to place metropolitan development, and the public policy-making process tied to it — the subjects proper of this contribution — into their proper foundation and frame of reference, from the viewpoint chosen here to address them, i.e. non-linear dynamics. One comment deals with a basic paradox involved in the treatment of metropolitan development and non-linear dynamics; the other is associated with the role of speculative behaviour in the course of socio-spatial evolution.
