Transport and Urban Development

Gunter Haag and Kathrin Gruetzmann

Chapter 10 in Regional Science in Business, 2001, pp 189-209 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Transport systems can only be seen in their regional context. Therefore the interactions between the transport system consisting of different transport modes and the regional structure (especially the settlement pattern) have to be investigated. On the one hand for example, changes in the population distribution influences the volume and the distribution of traffic flows. On the other hand the volume of transport within a region and the mix between public and private provision has an impact on the migration behaviour of households and firms.
