Abstract:
Abstract In this chapter, some new perspectives are provided on the problem of presenting, in a compact way, the vast amount of information contained in input-output tables, while, at the same time, making it possible to understand what is going on. These perspectives are developed through the use of economic landscapes; this concept is not a new one (see for example, Sonis, et al., 2000), but it is given a new meaning in this chapter. Economic landscapes provide a way of viewing the economy; this three-dimensional representation of the economy has x-y axes that are the sectors or the agents involved in the productive process, while the vertical (z) axis provide the values that resulted from the transactions and interactions, directly and indirectly. These heights can be values of production, value added, imports, number of people employed, differences in structural changes, and so forth.
