Abstract: Abstract The issue of convergence of GDP per capita is the topic of a large and growing literature in economics (e.g., Barro and Sala-i-Martin 1995; Fagerberg 1994). The general conclusion from this literature is that convergence, as opposed to divergence, is a special outcome that may prevail between a set of countries that is relatively homogenous in terms of variables such as knowledge generation (R&D), infrastructure, educational systems, etc.
