Updating the Law and Economics of Legal Parochialism

Nuno Garoupa

A chapter in Law and Economics in Europe and the U.S, 2016, pp 171-183 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In my original article, I observed that Law and Economics is influential in American legal scholarship, but not as much elsewhere and argued that the problems faced by law and economics outside of the United States were neither particular to the field nor to the local context. I offered an interpretation based on the similarities between legal parochialism and trade protectionism. In this updated version of my Article, I discuss recent developments and future trends.
