Abstract: Abstract The objective of this introductory chapter is to present the context of women leadership in decentralised governance, discuss theoretical aspects, review the existing literature and situate the papers in the volume in a larger policy context. The chapter provides key conclusions of the volume in terms of new evidence, methodological points, policy suggestions and areas of future research.
