Chapter Chapter 6 in Operations Research and Health Care Policy, 2013, pp 105-128 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter I survey research on planning and management for emergency medical services, emphasizing four topics: forecasting demand, response times, and workload; measuring performance; choosing station locations; and allocating ambulances to stations, based on predictable and unpredictable changes in demand and travel times. I focus on empirical work and the use of analytical stochastic models.
