Valuation Methods for IP
Gio Wiederhold
Chapter Chapter 5 in Valuing Intellectual Capital, 2014, pp 85-150 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The objective of this chapter is to show that IP can be valued. Because intellectual capital is the most valuable asset of modern enterprises, it is essential to compute its value. Literature on specific methods to value intellectual property is available, but their applicability varies from case to case [Contractor:01]. Books on intellectual property valuation are frequently updated and now cover intellectual capital as well [SmithP:05]. No consistent assessments of multiple methods seem to exist. By focusing on valuation practices encountered in corporate tax avoidance, it is possible to present multiple methods and compare their suitability and results.
