Chapter Chapter 1 in Improving Forecasts with Integrated Business Planning, 2019, pp 1-33 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, we start by introducing the what and why of forecasting and explore briefly the three different planning types—short-term or operational, tactical and long-term planning. We then go on to define the scope of this book and briefly introduce the statistical forecasting framework which we will employ as our reference model. We conclude this chapter by explaining the key challenges of forecasting such as seasonality, intermittency and human judgment.
