A chapter in Global Diversity Management, 2019, pp 161-171 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Compassion is not the entirety of justice; but it both contain a powerful, if partial, vision of just distribution and provide imperfect citizens with an essential bridge from self-interest to just conduct (Nussbaum, M. C., Social Philosophy and Policy 13:27–58, 1996, 38). The world has become, in many respects, a better place for many of its inhabitants. This has led to better welfare and living conditions for those fortunate enough to directly benefit from the globalisation of the world’s economies and the social power derived from rising incomes. Yet at the turn of the twenty-first century, with the world’s wealth at the highest level that it has been in history, we are faced with a situation of uneven development, basic need and disenfranchisement. The perception is that globalisation has created greater wealth than at any time previously and corresponding high levels of consumption, yet deficits have emerged in the areas of human and ethical values, resulting in moral hazards and excesses. As Nussbaum suggests, it is compassion with wisdom that success in management can really mean.
