A chapter in Knowledge Risk Management, 2020, pp 229-251 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter draws on the publication on the taxonomy of knowledge riskRisk by Durst and Zieba and their list of possible items of risk in the context of knowledge managementKnowledge management (Durst and Zieba in Int J Bus Environ 9(1):53–57, 2017, pp. 53–57). It is suggested to apply the definition of risk in clause 3.1 of ISO 31000 (effect of uncertaintyUncertainty on objectives) to define knowledge risk. Recently, on October 31, 2018, ISO has published the international standard “ISO 30401 Knowledge management systems—Requirements” which requires end users to determine risks and opportunities that need to be addressed to give assurance that the knowledge managementKnowledge management system can achieve its intended results and to plan actions to address these risks and opportunities. It is recommended to apply “ISO 31000:2018 Risk Management—Guidelines” in this context as it will provide an easy to understand and use approach to handling knowledge riskRisk . This chapter describes how this can be done in a simple, effective and efficient approach. A road map for the management of knowledge risk is provided, and a table with samples gives a first impression of aspects to remember in this context.
