A chapter in Managing Sports Teams, 2021, pp 43-61 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract The applicability of antitrust law in sports has long been controversial, and even today, legal problems still arise when it comes to the sporting and economic activities of sports clubs and federations. In principle, sports clubs and federations are prohibited from entering into agreements that restrict competition within the scope of their economic activities. The monopoly position of sports federations and leagues gives rise to market dominance abuses. In such cases, sports organisations must obey to the standards of Article 102 TFEU. (Treaty on the Functioning of the European Union.).
