A chapter in Managing Industrial Services, 2021, pp 67-82 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Service innovation gains traction as manufacturers’ competitive success relies increasingly on a robust service business. A significant number of services, however, shipwreck in the market. The missing market fit is mainly due to manufacturers’ insufficient service innovation capabilities. To build services, most manufacturers focus on applying their profound product innovation expertise to the field of service innovation. Instead, companies should create new organizational capabilities, e.g., a dedicated service innovation process and aligned role profiles, to master service innovation. The remainder of this chapter elaborates on approaches to excel through service innovation in industrial environments.
