Abstract Even though I only touched on the developments and technology trends of the future in Chap. 5 , I hope it has become clear that we can do an incredible number of useful things for our economy and the society of tomorrow with networks of smart, Internet-enabled devices. At this very moment, one of these ideas may be maturing in your head: how you can offer your customers real added value through the Internet of Things, how you can make your production more efficient, or how you can use IoT to make the world a little safer, more comfortable, healthier, or more livable. Because an idea is the beginning of everything. A certain Cicero (not CIO) put it this way:
