Abstract:
Abstract Aviation is a system and depends on the successful environmental transition of all system members to become environmentally sustainable. When it comes to reducing their own Scope 1 and 2 greenhouse gas emissions, airports have mature remedies at their disposal that have already resulted in notable successes. Furthermore, airports are also uniquely positioned to assist the other system members on their path to environmental sustainability using 11 distinct levers to build comprehensive action plans adapted to the airport’s own unique context. In doing so, airports have a direct and indirect influence on aviation’s environmental sustainability and benefit cost savings, reduced damages from natural disasters as well as improved public perception.
