Chapter 6 in HR Leadership During Bankruptcy and Organizational Change, 2022, pp 47-54 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter is focused on communication during organizational change. Communication is the cornerstone and can mean the difference between change succeeding or failing. This chapter highlights the perils of miscommunication as evidenced by the worst aviation disaster to date; the 1977 Tenerife disaster between KLM and Pan Am. This chapter will provide areas to be mindful of when communicating in a public company and avoiding material non-public information disclosures. Communication should not only focus on internal shareholders but also external vendors, customers, and partners indicating what the change means for them. Since human resources will often receive a lot of questions, this chapter will outline how to develop a Frequently Asked Question (FAQ) document which will contain a list of questions and the answer. This provides the team one consistent repository of how to handle a variety of questions. Perhaps the most important being explaining what the change means to the individual employee. The chapter briefly explores communication in the age of COVID.
