Abstract: Abstract Kazan is the capital and the largest city of the Republic of Tatarstan, Russia. It is the eighth most populous city of Russia. Kazan is situated at the confluence of the Volga and Kazanka Rivers in European Russia. The Kazan Kremlin is a World Heritage Site. In the year 2009, Kazan was branded as the “Sports Capital of Russia”. The city was one of the host cities for the 2017 FIFA Confederations Cup and the 2018 FIFA World Cup. Seven of Russia’s 14 largest cities are located within a 1000 km radius of Kazan. Kazan was the most economically diverse region within the Republic of Tatarstan with a total land area of 7075 km2. Kazan Smart City project is a path breaking urban development project which is designed to promote growth of investment in sectors such as high technology, medicine, education and tourism. Kazan smart city project is a greenfield development project which is being developed using the latest advancements in urban planning and engineering.
