Chapter 21 in Virtual and Innovative Quality Management Across the Value Chain, 2023, pp 217-221 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In the future, the QM function will become more agile and adaptable in the VUCA world. VUCA is an acronym that stands for volatility, uncertainty, complexity, and ambiguity—qualities that make a situation or condition difficult to analyze, respond to, or plan for. Understanding how to mitigate these qualities can greatly improve the strategic abilities of a leader and lead to better outcomes (Helmold et al., 2023). Global trends, the ongoing globalization, and the COVID-19 pandemic have taught us that businesses need to be prepared for the unexpected (Veeva, 2021). When a crisis could be around the corner, the most effective strategy is adaptability based on thorough risk analysis. Businesses stand a better chance of maintaining their quality management obligations through a crisis when they have contingencies in place.
