Chapter Chapter 4 in The Illusion of Control, 2023, pp 53-64 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents the first of three missions of academic research called “Mission #1: Understanding”. This mission refers to the need to compare, validate, and assess the performance of existing project management methodologies rather than developing new alternative methodologies in scientific research studies. Such studies are essential in understanding why a particular methodology works for some projects and sometimes fails miserably for others. The chapter compares three well-known earned value management methods to predict the final duration of a project in progress.
