Chapter Chapter 6 in The Illusion of Control, 2023, pp 85-104 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter presents the third of three missions of academic research called “Mission #3: Learning”. Since academic research is defined as the freedom to explore and the search for the unknown, this unlimited exploration of new ideas is precisely the goal of the third mission. This chapter extends the project management and control methods to advanced machine learning techniques to push boundaries and shift our knowledge without directly pursuing practical relevance. For academic researchers, the sky is never a limit but a search for new methods that the industry might use one day.
