Chapter Chapter 7 in Strategy Praxis, 2023, pp 207-232 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract ‘Good’ strategy and effective problem-solving don’t happen by chance. Success is tied to factors that lie deep within an organisation. In this final chapter, we reflect on factors that are ancillary to the principles presented in this book but which can help determine the outcome of a strategic effort. We examine the role of organisational engagement and its impact on firm resilience, the notion of competitive sustainability and sources of failure, and the roles of organisational knowledge and learning. Further, we explore the role of narratives and the notions of rationality and irrationality in strategising. We examine the current state of academic research and its relevance for the strategy practice field. We conclude the chapter with a reflection on the critical interface between strategy analysis and execution.
