A chapter in Understanding Türkiye’s Real Estate Markets, 2026, pp 669-682 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The establishment of a unified global understanding is crucial for formulating conservation policies and developing conservation statuses related to the preservation of cultural heritage assets. International agreements and organisations facilitate the advancement of conservation policies and practices from local to regional, national, and international levels. Despite the inherently local nature of real estate markets, it is essential to recognise the evolution of conservation policies into regional and even global frameworks. This chapter provides an overview of the legal regulations, conservation statuses, and practices associated with heritage assets in Türkiye. Furthermore, it assesses the impact of expropriation tools and principle decisions within conservation areas on property ownership and the real estate market.
