Chops: The Chinese Form of Signature

Henk R. Randau and Olga Medinskaya

Chapter 34 in China Business 2.0, 2015, pp 185-186 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In China the colloquial name “chop” refers to the stamps and seals used in lieu of signatures to legally authorize documentation. A chop represents a legal organization, entity or natural person. The Company Chop is most important as it is required before any legal entity can conduct business activities. The company chop must be approved by the local Public Security Bureau (PSB) and is required on all official business documents as it is legally binding.
