Abstract:
Abstract China’s overarching objective is a rebalancing of the economy—away from a unsustainable growth model that depends disproportionately on exports and capital investment towards greater domestic consumption. The shift is intended to solve social challenges including the rising income disparity, a weak social safety (welfare) net, and pollution, which pose a potential risks to the current order (Fig. 5.1).
