Global Merger dormakaba: Interview and Case Study

Stephan Bergamin and Markus Braun

Chapter 3 in Mergers and Acquisitions, 2018, pp 73-86 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Chapters 1 and 2 have outlined the key factors of integration management in M&A projects and introduced and developed our guidelines for successful performance transformation. This chapter features a case study of the first of two global mergers illustrated in this book: dormakaba Group, a global player in solution and services for secure access to buildings and rooms, all from a single source. In a disclosing interview, the Group’s CEO reveals how dormakaba has chosen to implement its integration, speaks about strategic fit, the principles of speed and simplicity, and the company’s mantra. Bergamin and Braun develop five hypotheses and illustrate what challenges there are when dealing with different company cultures. Most importantly, this interview and case study alludes to the critical success factors and pitfalls of the dormakaba merger processes.
