A chapter in Sustainable Fashion, 2018, pp 67-76 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter introduces H&M’s approach to sustainable supply chain management through collaboration. The author starts by introducing H&M’s Supplier Impact Partnership Program which aims to change from a one-way compliance communication to a two-way dialogue about business improvement. Furthermore, H&M’s strive to creating a fair living wage in their supplier factories is described. It is argued that collective bargaining is the best way to define wages which is why H&M focuses on improved industrial relations pursuing a good dialogue between employers’ and workers’ representations. The company is using the Fair Wage method, which aims to create management systems in which workers know what wages they are entitled to as well as ensuring they are paid according to their skills, experience, and performance. H&M further engages in partnership programs with leading labour organizations such as ILO or the global union IndustriALL.
