A chapter in Future Telco, 2019, pp 75-86 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Since several years, one frequently mentioned approach for raising the mobile network capacity per area unit is the use of Small Cells. However, as of today no significant rollouts of Small Cells on large scales have been noted. The current chapter provides an overview about the actual situation of Small Cells. An executed case study will explain why mature operators still do not implement Small Cells on a large scale. Additionally, risks and opportunities towards the deployment of Small Cells have been assessed. Looking forward towards the development of the next generation mobile access it is commonly agreed that the implementation of Small Cells is a must have to provide needed capacities.
