Chapter 6 in Disinformation Attacks On Businesses, 2026, pp 47-57 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter demonstrates how the crisis of confidence in traditional media accelerates the spread of disinformation. It explains the loss of the gatekeeper role by traditional media due to social networks, economic pressures, and click-driven newsrooms. The resulting fragmentation and polarization create a “window of opportunity” for disinformation actors. Using examples and studies, it is explained why users turn away and increasingly prefer alternative, unfiltered sources.
