Measuring the Success of Data Governance

Chapter 7 in Data Governance for Managers, 2022, pp 145-150 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract Professionally managed data is the basis for goal-oriented corporate development in the context of digital transformation and thus also the basis for data-driven process optimization and the resulting competitive advantages. This is why it is so important for companies to address the professional management of data in an ever-changing and increasingly complex digital world and to recognize the value of Data Governance for the organization. A final building block for the development of successful Data Governance is an accompanying measurement of success. In this chapter, we will discuss how the capabilities, services, and maturity levels of a company’s own Data Management can be measured, evaluated, and compared with set development goals. To do so, the use of a capability maturity model (CMM), which measures the ranks of Data Management services along the company’s processes (e.g., on a five-level maturity scale from “Aware” to “Optimizing”), is an established method.
