Chapter Chapter 10 in Doing Business in India, 2022, pp 145-165 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract The chapter discusses as to why investment in India is a good idea and how it can be done in a relatively safe manner. Global investment destinations compete with each other, and India often competes with China for this purpose. To many commentators, there is hardly any comparison between China and India regarding investment opportunities, as China is considered to be a giant, and India a dwarf in comparison. But, global changes in trade equations are taking place very fast, with China surely losing some of its sheen as the favourite investment destination. Thus, India gets a better treatment and goes up a few notches. Not only because of the situation in China, India, on its own, is improving and becoming a better place for investment with surer returns and mostly with sovereign backing. Today, most of the foreign investors definitely want to invest at least a portion of their wealth in India. Another added feature is the competition among different states in India for attracting investment, both domestic and foreign.
