Abstract:
Abstract Till 2010, data and analytics in enterprises was treated more as MIS (management information system) function. In the early 2010s, with the popularity of data visualization tools, data and analytics started getting democratized across the breadth and depth of enterprises. In the latter part of 2010s, due to the advent of digital technologies, data and analytics became the core focus for digital transformation and became boardroom agenda. However, enterprises soon realized that if they aspired to truly democratize data and analytics to become data-driven, they needed, inter alia, a very strategic organizational change management (OCM) approach. Such an approach should have four key focus areas (People, Processes, Technology, and Data) and three key objectives (Become a learning organization, Innovate, and Institutionalize change). Implementation of change goes through three stages—prepare and initiate, scale up, and institutionalize. OCM efforts increase considerably during the journey and criticality of change leadership increases exponentially. A change leader needs to be not only good in OCM planning but should also be good in managing the emotions of employees during the implementation process. To do that, enterprises need a transformational or charismatic leader.
