Chapter Chapter 7 in Defining Enterprise Data and Analytics Strategy, 2022, pp 161-174 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract Despite defining the best possible data and analytics strategy, an enterprise may not succeed in its data and analytics journey if it does not have the right leader. In addition to managing ambiguities of a large data and analytics initiative, the leader needs to manage organizational complexities (political, structural, etc.) that are inherent in any large enterprise. Hence, a data and analytics leader must possess many soft skills in addition to the hard skills such as technology and data science proficiency. While hiring a data and analytics leader, enterprises often make the mistake of focusing only on the hard skills. If the leader does not possess all the required soft skills, data and analytics adoption and maturity in an enterprise may remain low, despite investing large amount of time and money.
