Chapter 2 in Decoding the Market, 2025, pp 13-25 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract This chapter examines the structure, drivers, and challenges of the global economy, with a particular focus on the United States and China—the two largest economies in the world. It explains how macroeconomic analysis provides the essential foundation for intelligent investing by connecting market behavior with broader economic forces such as growth, inflation, employment, and policy. The chapter compares the U.S. economy—dominated by services, innovation, and finance—with China’s evolution from a manufacturing powerhouse toward a more consumption- and technology-driven model. It identifies key growth drivers including technological progress, globalization, and human capital, while also highlighting major structural challenges such as aging populations, debt burdens, and productivity slowdowns. By exploring these dynamics, the chapter illustrates how understanding the economy enables investors to anticipate market trends and make better-informed strategic decisions.
