Abstract: Abstract Leadership style plays a significant role in employee performance, organizational culture, and well-being. Existing theory and research on leadership styles, however, have mainly focused on their personality traits and behavior, and how they affect employees’ performance. An integral part of organizations is gossip, especially its negative form. Our study explores whether positive leadership styles (i.e., authentic, transformational, ethical, and inclusive) could prevent the existence of negative workplace gossip. Through a detailed analysis, we describe four leadership styles, conceptualize negative workplace gossip, refer to previous studies linking them, and suggest furthering our knowledge on their impact on employee well-being, especially as an important outcome of the relationship between leadership style and negative workplace gossip. We conclude by proposing further research to extend a future agenda on how, why, and when leadership styles impact employee well-being through negative workplace gossip.
