Abstract: Abstract This introductory chapter of the book presents a brief and comprehensive idea about the textile and clothing industry of India which inherits a strong economic ground being one of the largest industries of modern India and largest foreign-exchange earner of the country. This chapter mentions some of the new facets that this industry deals with in the context of new global economic order like liberalization of trade barriers, inflow of foreign investment, regional economic cooperation etc.
