A chapter in Adaptive and Learning Systems, 1986, pp 33-45 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract A summary of methods of averaging analysis is presented for continuous-time adaptive systems. The averaging results of Riedle and Kokotovic [1] and of Ljung [2] are examined and are shown to be closely related. Both approaches result in a sharp stability-instability boundary which can be tested in the frequency domain and interpreted as a signal dependent positivity condition.
