Chapter Chapter 26 in Wine Tourism Destination Management and Marketing, 2019, pp 399-421 from Springer
Abstract:
Abstract This chapter deals with wine tourism in Germany. Currently, the perception of wine is changing due to modern wine marketing concepts of a new generation of winemakers which include wine tourists as a target group. Facts about all 13 German wine regions and their special characteristics have already been described in detail. A typical feature of German wine regions is that tourists engage in a wide variety of activities related to wine. These include, for example, hiking in the mostly hilly vineyards, cycling along the river valleys, or visiting the numerous cultural sights in Germany. In addition, Germany is known for some touristic features in the wine regions. Wine tour guides are specifically trained, and small inns of winegrowers are temporarily opened, in which they may offer their own wine and smaller meals. As far as farm sale is concerned, much has happened in recent years and winegrowers have invested in modern tasting rooms and vinotheques.
