Chapter 10 in Leading Organizational Development and Change, 2020, pp 223-244 from Springer

Abstract: Abstract In this chapter, the key aspects of data analysis are explored in detail. Data analysis is a necessary part of the diagnostic process. It follows on from data collection processes as the fourth stage in the OD (organizational development) process. Data analysis facilitates the transformation of raw data into meaningful information. It is the process of ‘making sense of the data’. Data collection is meaningless without adequate data analysis procedures. Further, data analysis is of little use without adequate feedback processes to disseminate or share the information derived from data analysis. Feedback sets the stage for the development and implementation of various organizational change interventions. More specifically, this chapter details the data analysis process, which facilitates data transformation. The key aspects of this process are outlined and evaluated. The main tools which can be used to facilitate data analysis—quantitative and qualitative approaches—are also described and critically assessed. Further, recent trends within data analysis are introduced and described. Finally, feedback processes are evaluated. Feedback ensures that the diagnostic information is shared with all relevant clients within the organizational system to drive subsequent change and development.
